Implementation

Login Consultants helps clients to get a clear insight in the challenges of workspace implementation and migrations projects and helps the client executing these projects. During the last 10 years we have helped large and midsized companies to migrate succesfully to new workspace environments, focusing on a timely delivery of the project within the predetermined budget and quality. The added value of the new solution is closely monitored and communicated to end-users to encourage the acceptance of the new environment. We have written down our methodology in the 7 Step Approach.

  implementation

When designing a new workspace with our customers, we follow 7 steps that haven proven to lead to a successful roadmap. Our knowledge and experience with this approach has helped many midsize and large organizations transform their desktop environments. Our best practices contains all documents and scripts for the design, standardization and implementation of technologies from the leading hosted desktop technology vendors like Microsoft, Citrix and VMware.

The 7 steps in detail:

1. Collect Information

To be able to determine the most efficient way to offer desktops and applications to your end-users, it is important to investigate your current situation. What are your business requirements and what impact does that have on your application landscape? Which applications are the most critical and what do your end-users really need to do their work? Login Consultants will collect all the necessary data through questionnaires, interviews and tooling in the so-called Desktop Strategy Assessment. The information gathered will be used to create the functional design of the new workspace environment. At all times, the business requirements and the current mode of operations of our customers are the starting point of our 7 step approach.

2. Market Research

Next step is the Architecture Workshop, where the most important market developments of the leading hosted desktop solution providers are discussed. In this interactive session the advantages and challenges of the different heterogeneous desktop models are discussed focusing on the impact to:

  • the business: flexibility, cost saving, application support;
  • IT: security, manageability, complexity, maturity;
  • end-users: mobility, autonomy, performance.

In the High Level Design of your future workspace environment we will zoom in on the reuse of existing hardware, software and licenses.The business case will be created in cooperation with the customer and at the end of this phase, all participants and stakeholders will be informed about the choices made and the next steps leading to the new workspace strategy.

3. Proof of Concept

Once you have chosen the technology for your desktop or application management infrastructure, you may want to see how it works in your own environment. The Proof of Concept (PoC) is an ideal way to fully comprehend the impact of new technologies on your existing environment, as well as to minimize the risks regarding your investment. It creates an opportunity for better informed decision making.

The Proof of Concept is built up in 2 phases. In the first phase, the PoC environment is build and a demo room is created where the new concept will be tested. This will be realized with test accounts and test data. Stakeholders are invited to experience in practice how their issues are solved in the new environment. In the second phase the workspace of a selected audience is migrated to the PoC environment to experience the behavior in the new situation. This group of people will receive extra care and are asked to maintain a log that will form the basis for a FAQ. In this second phase all unique features and improvements will be communicated to the organization for a wide acceptance.

4. Build

During the Build phase the workspace environment will be designed, built and tested. Building your (new) desktop management and application management infrastructure needs thorough attention. Login Consultants helps you realize the build of your new your desktop infrastructure within time and budget at or above the agreed quality levels. Our best practices will help you recognize the pitfalls of such a complex project to be able to overcome them. In this way we can quickly realize your IT infrastructure without surprises and provide you with the means to efficiently and effectively migrate your users and applications yourself.

Login Consultants will create the following documents:

  • Desktop High Level Design (HLD): this document describes the different technologies that build up the total solution;
  • Detail Level Design (DLD): the detailed level describes the functional operation of the solution and the infrastructure components. Input to the DLD are the High Level Design and our best practices;
  • Installation and Configuration Document (ICD): this document consists of a strategic and dynamic part, detailing the installation configurations on the basis of the design in the Detail Level Design. The dynamical part will be documented in the change management process of the client.

Now it is time to build the environment. This includes the IT infrastructure, training materials, set of procedures and work instructions. Users and administrators test the new workspace environment according to the design where issues are identified and solved. Change requests will be discussed with an impact analysis and users are trained. In this phase much emphasis goes out to the change of the organization. It is well known that in this phase users are not all up to date on the importance of the change and would like to revert to the old situation.

5. Pilot Phase

In the pilot phase the pilot team is established with the customer. This team will work on the new environment to test the desktop infrastructure on daily use where possible improvements will be identified and implemented. Also in this phase, user manuals and work instructions are written. This will enhance the support of the end-users by influencing colleagues with their positive experiences.

6. Migrate

In the migration phase all users will be onboarded to the new platform. The migration is always executed based on our best practices migration scripts. During this process departments or logical units are defined, knowledge sessions are held and applications are analyzed. Preceding the migration, preparations are made by transforming personal settings using profiles and application virtualization tools. A migration strategy is defined per department.

7. Management

IT workspace environments typically cope with a high demand of changes. Login Consultants provides professional support of desktop and application infrastructures, from pure incidental technical support, packaging of applications to the full management of your (virtual) desktop infrastructure. Let us help you with our Support Services.
