This is the latest version of VSI 3.0. Beta3 is supported by Login Consultants and replaces VSI 2.x.
Login VSI is a platform independant benchmark specifically created SBC and VDI environments. Login VSI loads the system with simulated user workload, and focuses on how much users can run on the system before it saturates. VSI is 100% platform and protocol independent, and VSI configuration is simplified and automated where possible. As a result, VSI is a turn-key benchmark solution: perform tests within days instead of weeks. No need to create the workloads first. VSI is intended to be used by VDI/SBC engineers/admins, a degree in testing methodologies is not required.
This is the first public beta release of the new VSI 3.0. In this Beta3 release the VSI workload is considerably updated and the VSI Analyzer is now much more intelligent than the Excel sheet used in the previous 2.x releases. There are no major functional changes planned to both the VSI workload and the Analyzer (apart from smaller optimizations and bugfixes) for the official VSI 3.0 release. VSI 3.0 Beta will be updated with the new launcher functionality in the upcoming months.
- New standard workload called VSI, based on the original Medium workload
- Alternating between 2 medium workloads: one is with Flash video, the other without. Once one workload is finished, the other will start, alternating throughout the test.
- The flash app GetTheGlass is replaced by the “Kick-Ass” 480p movie trailer in flash format (.flv)
- Random start delay of max 15 second, to prevent workload synchronization
- Automatic loop length adjustments: when the load is higher, normally to total loop length increases: now automatically the pauses are decreased so the total loop length stays the same, also under stress.
- Now FreeMind (an open source JAVA application) is added to the medium workload.
- Updated the light, heavy & multimedia workloads to include all changes mentioned above
- Completely revised logging structure:
- No more VSI_Log.xxxx, but SESSIONNUMBER_USERNAME_COMPUTERNAME.log
- The Log files is now using comma delimited CSV formatting
Logfiles are now stored in VSI Share\ActiveTestName\Results
Active sessions are not based on sessions launched, but truly active (logged on) sessions - Completely new analyser, based on the MSchart add-on for .Net 3.5 sp1
- Fully automatic analysis (including stuck sessions)
- Dynamic charting (right click on the chart to set axis)
- Result selection and highlighting (similar to perform: right click in the lower window)
- Detailed charting
- Export Chart to PNG (other formats will follow)
- Local Access database to cache analysis
- The highest and lowest scores: a 2% top and bottom results will be removed from VSI max calculation to lower noise in the results
Dynamic VSImax calculation: the response times of the individual action can be weighted in the total response time by multiplying or dividing specific measured actions.
This is a patch to update excisting VSI 2.x installation to the latest version of VSI 3.0. Beta3 is supported by Login Consultants and replaces VSI 2.x.
- Download ‘Patch VSI 2.x to 3.0 Beta3.exe’
- Run the ‘Patch VSI 2.x to 3.0 Beta3.exe’ to unpack the patch files and browse to that folder
- On the target machine(s), run ‘VSI target patch 2x to 3.0 Beta3\Setup.cmd’. This setup.cmd will update the VSI code and automatically install JAVA 1.6 runtime and FreeMind application required for VSI 3.0.
- Just execute the test similar to what is described in the documentation and VSI 2.x.
- Note: VSI 3.0 result must be analyzed with the new VSI analyzer, do not use the excel sheet on VSI 3.0 results.
- To review the results use the new analyzer located in the ‘VSI Analyser 3.0 Beta.exe’, run the exe to unpack the files.
- Before this new analyzer can be used run the MSchart.exe to install MSchart (.NET 3.5 sp1 required).
- After that execute the ‘VSI analyser.exe’.
The App-V ADM template configures client settings for the App-V Windows Desktop Client and for the Remote Desktop Services Client. The ADM template centrally manages common client configurations by using an existing Group Policy infrastructure and includes settings for communication, client interface and permissions. The App-V Add-on ADM Template is an extension to Microsoft’s “App-V ADM Template”. Together, Microsoft’s and Login Consultants ADM Template allow a comprehensive management of various App-V Client settings.
The new App-V Add-on ADM Template is designed for Microsoft Application Virtualization Client version 4.5 and 4.6. It includes two ADM files; one for 32bit Operating Systems and one for 64bit Operating Systems. Other changed features include:
Modified and Removed Features:
- Virtual File System: This option has been removed because it is included in the Microsoft ADM.
- Require Authorization If Cached: This option has been removed because it is included in the Microsoft ADM.
- Cache location: Changed to App-V Client Cache File Location and included VDI shared cache (read only FSD).
- Cache Size: This option has been removed because the cache size can’t be modified just by changing this registry key. Instead, you either have to flush/clear the cache by setting the “State” registry value to “0” before rebooting the client machine or you have to use Microsoft’s “App-V Cache Resizer Tool”.
- Global Data Directory: This option has been removed because controlling it by a GPO setting is not very useful. Tests showed us that changing only the Global Data Location through registry resulted in a “hanging state” of the App-V client. Preferably this setting should be changed through the Client Management Console.
The App-V Client Diagnostic and Configuration tool makes it possible for administrators or users to troubleshoot virtual applications and the environment they run in:
- Launch predefined and custom commands within the virtual environment of each application.
- See the impact of the App-V Client and the available virtual applications on your system by calculating package size, cache size, user delta file size, log file size etc.
- Diagnose problems with App-V applications by parsing the App-V Client log file (in real time) and search any message online.
- Configure settings that are not visible in the App-V Client GUI, such as "Predictive Streaming", "Allow Stream from File", "Max Package Age" and many more.
- Give an overview of application and package information by merging important WMI, registry and OSD information in one single window.
- ACDC can be run both as an Administrator and as a Limited User. Running as a limited user will limit the functionality of the tool due to the fact that it has less permission on the system.
New features of ACDC 1.1 include:
- Support for Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.6.
- Support for 32bit and 64bit Operating Systems.
- Automatic application refresh (first tab) is optional. When ACDC was run on machines which have a lot of applications available (100+) there was some loss in user experience. The automatic loading (and refreshing) of applications in the Application tab is made optional for this scenario.
- Copy to clipboard in Application or Package detail pane now also supports only copying the value instead of entire line.
- Application icons are displayed both in the applications tab as well as in the tray icon.
- The Cache tab has a refresh option.
- Double clicking a log item opens sftlog.txt
- In some scenarios when an OSD file was edited locally, ACDC would keep the local OSD file locked after saving and closing the file. This would publishing refresh to fail on updating the file.
- Support for importing an application from a network share.
You need to be logged on to download. The App-V USB Tool is an add-on to the App-V 4.5 Client. It makes it possible to automatically, or by request, import and register App-V enabled (sequenced) applications into the App-V Client from any USB storage device.

The App-V Migration Tool is an add-on for the native App-V Sequencer created by Dennis Damen & Rodney Medina. The purpose of the App-V Migration Tool is to help you convert existing automated application setups to App-V Virtualized Applications (aka streams or sequences) with the least possible amount of user intervention. Freeware!

The App-V OSD Editor is a GUI tool that allows you to open an existing App-V OSD file and edit it. All the possible categories are read from the App-V OSD file and displayed in the appropriate tab. You can insert and/or delete values from the OSD as you like. So you don't have to worry and opening and closing tags or anything like that any more. There are however some fields you can not edit with the OSD Editor. This is by design: these are fields that should never be edited like for example the GUID of the sequence. Additionally, the App-V OSD Editor also educates you on the meaning of some of the XML tags that can be used in App-V OSD files. Made by Jan van der Elst.

With this App-V Client Setup Kit (SGCSK) you can easily configure an universal installation VB Script for deploying theApp-V Client to Windows Desktops. Clients are always very different, you need additional intelligence during installation of the client. Also, certain configuration settings can not be configured using the native App-V Client installer.
Settings which can be configured by the SGCSK:
- All the standard installation options
- Dynamic Determination of App-V Client Cache Size
- App-V Client Security Settings
- Disconnect Operation Settings
Use the generated script to deploy the App-V Client to Windows desktops by importing it in your deployment solution!
